If one thing has changed for the better since the pandemic, it's working from home more often. For some of us, gone are the days of dressing up our sorry asses and commuting every day into a sterile office. The luxury of attending virtual meetings in yoga pants, hopefully in a space you love, is here to stay. However, transforming a slice of your home into an office sanctuary where you feel motivated, focused, and a little zen can be challenging.
The Client Challenge:
My client called when her new dream house dropped into her lap. She needed to create a home office before a huge new project kicked off soon after the scheduled closing. I needed to transform this purple puker into a tranquil, productive, Zoom-worthy work oasis in just a few weeks.
The Before: A Purple Puker
My Process:
My clients' most common challenge is not having a vision or plan, which leads to frustration and paralysis. My process often starts with a spark—an object that brings joy or evokes emotion, art from a favorite vacation, a family keepsake, or a favorite outfit.
In this case, my client's spark was a piece of quirky alligator artwork that had a special meaning to her. Next, we found an existing rug that coordinated perfectly. And, wa la! A color palette was born. She also asked to include her aging dog, Fiona, in the design, as she was a constant fixture under her desk. Lastly, I layered textiles and accessories to complete the room's narrative.
Let's get started! Of course, dogs are welcome
