Part 1: A bathroom metamorphosis—renovating a slug into bold + beautiful

My client is a courageous, confident, and badass woman who embraces her true self. She purchased a vacation ski house in New Hampshire, a charming country residence. After taking care of the exterior, roof, and landscaping, she was ready to tackle the interior, starting with her primary bathroom. While she envisioned a bold, custom, unique design, her busy professional life and frequent travels created design paralysis. She needed help. Enter William + Bailey.

The challenge:

When I first saw this bathroom, with its old-fashioned linoleum, wallpaper that reminded me of a grandmother's housecoat, and gloomy plastic shower enclosure, I felt like I was stepping into an era before the internet existed. The additional challenge: zero natural light.

The "mauve" before

My client requested that the new design align with her whimsical, boho style, influenced by the unique art and accessories she collects from the local White Mountain antique shops. She asked to incorporate a bold pink color, birds, and a hint of glam. Excited by the challenge, I responded, "Let's go! This is going to be fun!"

My process:

At the kickoff, it is all about listening and honing in on what sparks inspiration and excitement:

  1. The first step is a fun client questionnaire that makes our Discovery Call efficient and collaborative. This equips me to engage in a focused discussion to pinpoint design challenges and goals.

  2. Next, I create inspirational design boards so my clients can see the importance of integrating color palettes, material finishes, and accessories based on what I heard.

  3. Finally, I walk clients through options, focusing on what best suits their needs and preferences. I listen closely to their feedback and arrive at a final design direction. Customization truly speaks to my clients and makes their homes unique to their style and personality. There is no big box, cookie-cutter look here!

My client loved the inspiration board. We decided on a custom pink vanity (yay!). The standout feature is the stunning Cole & Sons wallpaper, which checked all her boxes perfectly. Cream and black finishes will complete this luxurious haven.

The gutting process has begun!

The gut job has begun!

Stay tuned for the big reveal!

In an upcoming blog post, I will share details of how this beautiful design will come to life.
